Knowing what MIME Types are in cPanel

What are MIME Types? MIME stands for “Multi-Purpose Internet Mail Extensions” which is where this feature is for handling several types of files in the browser. When the file is sent to the browser at the end of your website, the MIME type will be sent as well. MiME Type will tell the browser the file type and how it will be presented to the user. For example, if a file of type .js is sent to a browser then the MIME type will also send to the browser to tell you that the file of type .js is a JavaScript file, and the browser will handle the appropriate file.

Most MIME types are defined in a system-defined MIME type. But if you have a specific file, you can create a specific MIME type for that file in the interface. As a result, the browser will be notified of that particular file and handle the file accordingly.

Here's how to add custom files in MIME Types:

  • Open cPanel and look for MIME Types in the Advanced section, then press it.
  • Fill as needed, then press Add.

MIME Type can be deleted which we just created. MIME Type cannot be deleted which is defined by the system automatically. To delete what we created, we only need to press the Delete button.
