How to Enable and Disable ModSecurity in cPanel

Website security is very important and should not be ignored. In this modern era, cybercrime is very common, such as data theft, malware attacks, DDOS attacks, and others. There are even cases where the hacker then asks the website owner for money so that the website can be returned. This is certainly very disturbing for friends who are mainly users of hosting services. But friends, you don't need to worry because the Mikyhost hosting service uses the immuneify360 security feature from cloudlinux which makes the website more secure. And there is also a built-in modSecurity feature from immunoify360 which increases website security and will also prevent various cybercrime attacks.

What is ModSecurity?

ModSecurity is a firewall application, Open source, which provides protection of web pages hosted on the server. Enabling modSecurity on a server can increase server security at the web application level. Basically, ModSecurity functions to detect and prevent attacks before malware reaches the website.

How ModSecurity Works

The way ModSecurity works is like a filter. ModSecurity will filter any traffic that enters a website. The way ModSecurity works is to filter every HTTP request made. An HTTP request is a request to open a page made by a website visitor. Then how does ModSecurity filter it? ModSecurity will filter by matching it with the rules that have been set in ModSecurity. These rules will detect whether the traffic is dangerous or not for the website, if the traffic is dangerous it will automatically block access.

How to Use ModSecurity in cPanel

This ModSecurity feature will basically be automatically activated after hosting is active. And we recommend always enabling ModSecurity on your cPanel to protect your website from hacker attacks.

First I will explain the steps to enable ModSecurity in cPanel.

  1. Please login to your cPanel. To login to your cPanel, please use the username and password provided in the registered email. If you are a MikyHost.com customer, to log in to cPanel, you can go through the Client Area. In the Client Area, select the Service>My services menu, then select the service product that you have purchased. Then scroll down, in the shortcut section, you can choose one of the cPanel menus. To go to the front page of cPanel, you can select the Home icon or the homepage.
  2. After successfully logging in, then enter the ModSecurity menu.
  3. Then the ModSecurity page will appear. To disable ModSecurity click Off to the right of the domain name. Then if you want to activate it again, just click On.

Quite easy not the steps. The reason why ModSecurity needs to be disabled is that sometimes the website that you are developing doesn't comply with the ModSecurity rules, so the website becomes inaccessible.

Hopefully useful for all friends.
