Causes Outlook Can't Receive Incoming Emails and How To Solve It

Microsoft Outlook is a commonly used email client application service. If you experience problems receiving emails, there are several possible causes. In this guide, we will discuss Outlook not receiving email solutions.

There are several possible causes for Outlook email not being able to receive email, such as the internet connection being used, errors in setting the incoming mail server, and over quota to a misconfigured MX record.

Here we summarize some of the causes Outlook can not receive email from outside:

Check the connection you are using

One of the causes of Outlook not being able to receive email is the internet connection, such as the connection used is problematic until the public IP connection used is blocked from the server. Therefore, you need to check the connection first.

First, please ping your incoming server hostname with the command 'ping domain name or 'ping mail. domain name.

If the ping failed to connect, try using the tracert command to see the results of your connection route to the server. Use the following command: 'domainname tracert' or 'mail.domainname tracert'.

If the ping and tracert results fail to arrive, please contact our support for further assistance. However, if the ping and tracert results arrive, you can check other things such as the following points.

Make sure the email settings in Outlook are correct

The protocols responsible for retrieving email from the email server (webmail) to outlook are POP3 and IMAP. To find out if the settings you are using are correct or not, you can use the test account feature available in Outlook.

You can find this feature on the File menu > Account > double click on the email you want to check > test account. Here's an example image:

Make sure the test account results are complete for incoming and outgoing. If there is an error, Outlook will provide an error log. Then you can make improvements to the settings used.

Check Your Hosting Space Quota

If you can't receive email from anyone and the email sender receives a "Mail Quota Exceeded" reply message, then you can be sure that the hosting space you are using is full.

Please do the deletion of data that is not needed on the hosting account or can upgrade the hosting package on top of the package you are currently using.

Check your domain's MX Records

To check your MX record, you can use the following sites: http://iptools.com or http://mxtoolbox.com. Make sure that your domain's MX records point to the server you are using.

Those are some of the problems that are generally the cause of your Outlook not being able to receive email as usual. This article also applies to users of other mail client software such as:

  • Outlook Express
  • Opera Mail
  • Thunderbird
  • Eudoramail
  • Apple Mail
  • and others.

Please contact our technical team, if you have done the steps above but your Outlook email cannot receive emails as well. May be useful.
