What is URL?

URL is a series of characters with a certain standard format, which is used as a pointer to the address of a resource on the internet, be it documents, image files, text, and others. Most internet users must be familiar with URLs (Uniform Resource Locator) because they are often used when surfing the internet. However, not everyone understands what URL means.

URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator where it refers to certain characters, usually numbers, letters, and symbols, which lead to addresses on the world wide web (www). URL is used to identify the location of a file on the internet. URLs are used not only to open a website, but also to download videos, images, hypertext pages, and more.

For example, the URL address https://mikyhost.com/video/preview.mp4

  • mikyhost: is the Domain name
  • com: extension of top level domain
  • video: is the name of the folder you click on to open the document in question, as well as representing the directory for setting up a web page or file.
