Common terms in email

Creating a personal email via cPanel is an easy matter, but for those of you who are new to the world of emailing, it would be better if you know in advance the common terms that you will encounter. The following are some general terms about Email to help make it easier for you in Email management:

  • Bounced email, Email that failed to be sent and returned to the sender, this happens because there is an error in the system.
  • E-mail Address, Or what we are more familiar with an email address, if you create a personal email, your email address will have the extension @yourdomain.com for example [email protected], [email protected], etc.
  • E-mail Body, Email body is the content of the email in the form of text or images.
  • Email Header, To email that contains information about the sender of the email, the server used, and even the IP address of the email sender. Some email proprietors do not display E-mail header information because there are so many and only useful for advanced people.
  • IMAP, which stands for Internet Message Access Protocol, is a standard protocol that functions to retrieve email from a server. With IMAP email users can choose messages to be read or retrieved, create email folders on the server and even delete existing emails. IMAP is great if someone is on the go and wants to get full access and control of all their emails.
  • Mail Box, a location for storing incoming emails from an account or email realm, is similar to a mailbox in conventional mail mode.
  • MX Record, short for Mail eXchange, is used to tell the server where an email should be sent.
    Password Authentication, Password to maintain the confidentiality of your email. Like Gmail passwords.
  • POP3, Similar to IMAP, POP3 is an email protocol that functions to retrieve email from the server. POP3 serves to retrieve email from a server. Email that has been retrieved and stored locally POP3 by default will be deleted from the server but certain POP3 settings can be set so as not to delete email from the server so that it can be accessed again from anywhere.
  • SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Is a protocol that functions to send an email, this protocol is used when you send an email to someone using your account.
    Mail Client is a program used to open emails such as Microsoft and Outlook, Thunderbird, and even your web browser.
